Projects

This proposal comes from the interest to develop, formulate, and analyze the conditions of an architectural element inserted in an urban context, with the objective of designing a building that can dictate the shape of the city. Quito has a morphology that adapts to its existing geographical conditions, which creates particular urban circumstances in its urban plan. Among these characteristics, there are urban spaces that shape the city and mark stages of growth and adjustment of the urban plot to the north and south, which respond to its condition of a city located in a hole between mountains.

In this sense, La Carolina Park is the chosen spot of development, currently considered the hyper center of the city of Quito, since due to its urban conditions and location it has become the financial and commercial focus, which has the appropriate potential to become a center of cultural development on an urban scale. In addition, the choose of a place for the development of an institutional project seeks to initially meet the ambitions, conditions, and potentials that an architectural element of this magnitude requires. As this, the site presents initial concerns, and in turn a problem that can be justified through architecture.

Finally, the development of the National Library and National Archive of Ecuador have an impact in urban scale, but also throughout its own architecture as a development of a building based on concepts and typologies. The project has a development in two main strategies; the development of a national library based in the investigation throughout history of a library understood as a main space for knowledge development, and the development of a national archive based in the concepts of an space understood for keeping alive the most precious information of the country.
