Cesare Roversi Arredamenti Pavilion: Defining Architectural Heritage
Team: Santiago Martinez, Alba Caja, Nevenka A. Krzelj, Vibha Chourasia
Project in Collaboration with Herzog & De Meuron / Andreas Fries
The project is located in the heart of the production of Cesare Roversi Arredamenti factory in the region of Lombardy. Sourrounded with an architectural language of curvilineal and vertical projects materialized in brick, glass, and concrete. The pavivlion aims to redefine the site's identity and conceive its presence in the heritage image. In terms of materiality, the project is conceived as an architectural prototype that can be built with local technology.
This approach emphasizes the importance of the production process in the company and reflects its production heritage. This is why the projects use materials such as Wooden beams, metal, and glass because they can mold and join each other in site by using local processes. As part of the architectural program, the projects not only archive the connection between the factories but also propose a new space for gathering.
The sequences of spaces between the pavilion create a smooth transition between public and private spaces. This approach rethinks the current conditions of the company by giving back the areas to the workers of the company and allowing the natural atmosphere to flow inside the building structures. The intertwined relationships between the factory shape the pavilion's program as a passage through a catalog in the making. This part of the process becomes an exhibition for visitors and workers. Its form comes from the juxtaposition and axes of the two existing pavilions. Materialwise, the intervention becomes an object in process for the factory using wooden elements and new forms of connection.
